County school districts began finalizing their distance learning plans for Colorado County students Monday, Mar. 23.

Columbus ISD Superintendent Dr. Brian Morris said, “Columbus is offering a combination of online and work packets for students. Based on the school and the teacher, modes of communication and delivery of instruction will likely include Google classroom, Nearpod, Study Island, SpringBoard digital, etc.Teachers will be available online, by using the Remind App and by phone if they have given their number out.

The grades taken during this school closure will be on a Pass/Fail basis. We are using our website, Facebook and our automated phone/text system, School Messenger. Instruction will be differentiated to meet the needs of all of our students (ELL, Special Education/504, At Risk,

Gifted and Talented, Dual Credit/AP). If any modifications or accommodations cannot be delivered, compensatory services will be provided when schools reopen. School counselors will be available to communicate to students as needed via email.”

Morris said in the event a student experiences any technical difficulties, parents can contact Zach Venghaus, Director of Instructional Technology, at venghausz@columbusisd.org

Rice CISD Superintendent Bill Hefner issued the following statement, “ First period teachers will be contacting their students in the next couple of days regarding assignments. iPads will be issued to high school students Mar.25 and Thursday, Mar. 26 from 10 a.m. - noon at the Eagle Lake Intermediate School, Garwood School, and Sheridan School.”

Hefner went on to say assignments can be accessed through Schoology, or other assigned online platforms as designated by teachers, and students are asked to check their school email at least once a day.

Hard copies of work assignments will be available to pick up during coordinated meal times starting Monday, Mar. 30.

Weimar ISD stated, “Assignment packets for all WISD students will be available for pick-up from the WES, WJH and WHS Circle Drives Wednesday, March 25 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Completed assignment packets are due back to school on Friday, Mar. 27. Designated drop boxes per grade level will be available for completed packets at each campus. New packets and online instruction will be available to all students on this day as well.”
