Federal drug fugitive arrested on 21 year old warrant in Eagle Lake

A federal drug fugitive with a 21-year-old warrant was apprehended in Eagle Lake Monday, according to reports from the Eagle Lake Police Department. 

Silvia Nelly, 50, Eagle Lake, was charged in August of 1996 with possession of betwen 50 and 2,000 pounds of marijuana. According to officials with the Colorado County Sheriff's Department, which was also involved in apprehending Nelly, it was believed she fled to Mexico after the warrant was issued, and federal officials recently learned she was living in the Eagle Lake area. 

Nelly was apprehended Monday at 3:36 p.m. in the parking lot of Brooshire Brothers in Eagle Lake following a traffic stop by the Colorado County Sheriff's Department. The Eagle Lake Police Depatment, CCSO, Texas Department of Public Safety, U.S. Marshal's Service, and the Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force were involved in the apprehension. ELPD officers Viera and Buckley assisted in the apprehension. 

Calls to the U.S. Marshals service to determine what jurisdiction the warrant originagted from were not returned by 4:15 p.m. Thursday.
