GARWOOD—The Ramiro Hernandez, Jr., Memorial Scholarship Fund is raising funds with the hopes of awarding four Rice Consolidated High School students each a $1,000 scholarship, just as the group did last year, in its inaugural year. A hamburger lunch is set for April 13 to help the group achieve this goal of supporting Rice CISD students.

The scholarship fund, begun by Hernandez’s siblings, honors Ramiro Hernandez, Jr. who was personally known by many in the Garwood, Eagle Lake, and Rice area as a community leader, advocate and a very dedicated man in everything he did. Most of all, Ramiro recognized the importance of education and the aspirations of higher education. Ramiro was a proud graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. His academic achievements would lead him to a career with the State of Texas in the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services division. His accomplishments are still being recognized to this day.

“This scholarship fund has been established to provide financial assistance for committed students seeking to improve themselves and pursue higher education. This scholarship in his memory has been established by Ramiro Hernandez Sr. and Family of Garwood, Texas,” organizers said.

The Second Annual Ramiro Hernandez, Jr., Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser is set for Saturday, April 13, 2019. The fundraiser will be held at 11 a.m. at the Garwood Volunteer Fire Station in Garwood.

Net proceeds will go towards the funding of scholarships for the benefit of our Rice CISD students planning on attending a Texas college/ university.
