EAGLE LAKE — On March 23, Lions Club Secretary Charles Abel introduced Rice High School senior McKinsey Smidovec, who spoke before the Lions Club about her experiences last summer as a Girls State representative.

“At Girls State, we were called a ‘citizen,’ Smidovec said. “We established our own city, county and state government. We served as members of either the House of Representatives or the Senate. We were assigned to a mythical political party for educational purposes – either ‘National’ or ‘Federal.’ As fellow citizens, we determined our party’s platform. It was so cool! We learned the duties, privileges and responsibilities of being an American citizen by everything we did, all week long! I’ll never forget the friends I made or the life-changing values I learned. Thank you, Eagle Lake Noon Lions Club, for sponsoring me.”

Every year, Eagle Lake Noon Lions Club sponsors one girl from Rice Consolidated High School to attend the American Legion Texas Bluebonnet Girls State, which is held for a week during June at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas.
