The Weimar Independent School District was recently awarded $6,000 from the Weimar Methodist Foundation.

The funds will be used to support scholarships for WISD high school students taking dual credit classes from Blinn College as part of the Alliance for College & Career Student Success. The ACCSS scholarship fund is housed at the Fayette Community Foundation.

Donations can be made by individuals, philanthropies, or businesses who are interested in supporting students in their community who are pursuing college credits while in high school (https://myaccss.net/donations/).

Traditional scholarships and financial aid are not available to these students, who pay $318 per 3 credit-hour academic course. Though this fee is significantly discounted from what a traditional college student pays, it can be difficult especially for schools whose student populations are over 50% economically disadvantaged. Scholarships such as this open the door to all students interested and willing to put in the work to pursue their post-secondary goals. ACCSS and WISD are very thankful to Weimar Methodist Foundation for investing in the youth who are the future of Weimar.

It is the mission of ACCSS in South Central Texas to collaborate as a partnership with rural public-school districts and an institution of higher education to provide academic and career resources, guidance, and supports necessary for students to obtain post-secondary credits or workforce career credentials.

For more information, please contact Susie Shank, Director, at the Blinn College-Schulenburg Campus at 979-743-5239 or [email protected], visit the ACCSS website www.myaccss.net, or follow their program activities on their Facebook page @ACCSS5.
