Junior High Lady Cards take top five in Swamp Relays

The Columbus Junior High Lady Cards took on the Swamp Relays and put up some strong performances on the way to top placements for their respective teams. The seventh grade girls took fourth place with a score of 65 points, while the eighth grade girls took fifth after their team performance.

The eighth grade Lady Cards had a plethora of top-5 placements during their events that led to their team score. They were led by silver medal outings by Candee Pitchford in the 200m dash and the relay team of her, Cayla Grounds, Faith Cleveland and Peyton Drozd that also placed second in the 200m relay. The same relay team won fourth place in the 4X100m race. Edith Neito came in with a bronze medal in the long distance 2400m run. Nieto also claimed fifth place in the 1600m run, and Cleveland also claimed a fifth-place finish in the 100m dash.

The seventh graders had a strong day as well with several athletes finishing in the top five. The relay team of Calleigh Barrett, Kaylea McCarthy, Lexi Kulhanek and Demi Roecker took the top placement of the day with second place in the 4X100m race. Sloan Youens replaced Calleigh Barrett as the rest of the same relay team also placed in third place for the 4X200m relay. Kulhanek and Youens teamed up with Brisa Morales and Harper Gerik to take the bronze medal in the 4X400m relay. Morales took fourth place in the individual 400m, and Madison McRee along with Kaitlyn Rutta took home fourth-place finishes in the 1600m run and the 100m hurdles respectively. McRee took fifth place in the 800m and 2400m runs while Faith Menke, Bertha Molina Marquez and McCarthy took top five placements in their respective events as well.

The Lady Cards return to action on March 27 for the district meet hosted in Hallettsville.
