The Community Garden Guild of Eagle Lake will host its Christmas Home Tour Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. One of the tour homes will be that of Jenna and Justin Crosby, 500 West Post Office Street in Eagle Lake.

The historic 1897 home of the Crosby family is the oldest home on this year’s homes tour. It was originally built by the W.E. Welford family, who lived in the home for over 50 years. Purchased in December 2016, the Crosbys have been personally remodeling ever since.

“Restoring the home’s character has been very important to us,” states Jenna. “In keeping with the traditional exterior color, we updated the house in a rich white and restored the front door.”

The original shiplap on the walls were exposed, and ceilings were raised to their original height. Original wood floors, the fireplace molding, interior doors and hardware were all restored, adding to the charm of the old home.

The Crosbys have also added modern touches, updating the kitchen and bathrooms entirely, replacing all windows and remodeling the two story detached garaged.

“Maintaining the famous pink azaleas of Mrs. Dorothy Kohleffel, a previous owner, has been exciting for me,” Jenna reveals.

“Having been born and raised in Eagle Lake, I knew how important they were to people who have always admired them and this home.”

For the holidays, the house will be decorated mostly traditional red and green. A family tree filled with ornaments collected through the years will be displayed in the living room. The dining room will highlight gold decor. The children’s playroom theme will be inspired by their favorite Christmas movie - “The Grinch.”

This cozy unique, one-of-a-kind home is a dream for the Crosby family for many reasons - 122 years of history and they now get to be a part of bringing it back to life. The Crosbys are happy to welcome home tour guests to visit their home and share the spirit and tradition of the Holiday. Their home is one of seven locations that will be part of the Guild’s Christmas Home Tour. Tour brochures and refreshments will be available for tour guests at The Vineyard II in downtown Eagle Lake, along with gift baskets and boxes for puchase.

Tickets for the tour may be purchased in advance from any Guild member or on the day of the tour at The Vineyard II or any of the tour homes. For more information, contact Jean Wiese at (979) 234-5480 or Sandy Bendy at (979) 234-3925.
