45th annual Colorado County Fair comes to an end

COLUMBUS — For the 45th straight year, the county fairgrounds once again hosted the Colorado County Fair in a celebration of the milestone. People from all over the county converged on the fairgrounds to listen to music, enjoy rides and play games as they celebrated the annual event from Thursday, Sept 14 to Saturday, Sept. 16.

Following the opening ceremony, the fair started with a salute to the seniors as the county’s elderly were treated to coffee and donuts in the Founder’s Hall with various Home-ec vendors and art surrounding them. The seniors enjoyed bingo, polka music and a catered lunch during the fair’s first day. The carnival, youth rodeo and shows kept attendees of all ages entertained throughout the day.

The following day was ‘Go Tejano Day’, a celebration of the Mexican and Latino influence in Texas that has been a foundational part of Texas culture. Attendees enjoyed various Hispanic musical artists for the acts as they continued to partake in the rest of the fair’s events.

The final day of the fair began with the fair parade as several different organizations and businesses drove their floats and vehicles down the streets of downtown. Later in the day, some much needed rain as the daylight hours of the fair brought a downpour onto the fairgrounds. As a result, the planned car show was cut drastically short and the carnival was forced to shut down for a limited time. However, once the rain cleared and the ground dried up a bit, the fairgrounds were once again filled with the citizens of Colorado County as they enjoyed the final night of the county fair highlighted by a performance from the platinum-winning duet, Thompson Square.
