Veteran journalist Jimmy Galvan has been named area editor for The Sealy News and the Colorado County Citizen, overseeing the newsgathering operations at both publications.
The two newspapers are known as the I-10 Group and are owned by Granite Media Partners Inc.
“I am very excited to be presented with this challenge,” Galvan said. “I am honored that Granite Media Partners has confidence in me to take on this challenge and I look forward to working with our staffs to improve the newspapers in this group.”
Galvan will manage three fulltime reporters, assist in the layout of the newspapers and help facilitate programming for digital platforms and social media, among other journalistic duties.
“We have a strong team, and I believe we can work together to provide quality products for both communities,” he added. “I welcome anyone from these communities to give me a call to discuss what they believe we need to do to improve our products.”

Galvan celebrates 40 years in the journalism field this August. Among other duties, he has served as a managing editor for two daily newspapers. Galvan also has won numerous Texas Press Association honors and garnered General Excellence awards for five newspapers during TPA conferences.
Galvan worked as the managing editor for The Sealy News from 1995-1999 before returning to the publication in September 2022. He and his family have called Sealy home since 2013.
“Jimmy is perfect for his new role, given his years of experience and his talents as a natural storyteller. He has a true nose for news,” said Thomas Edwards, the executive editor for Granite’s news operations, which include 10 newspapers, a dozen websites, several magazines and digital content including sports and current events shows.
“Granite is more than just a newspaper company, offering print, online and social-media content, as well as serving our advertisers,” Edwards added. “Jimmy will help lead his papers into the future as they embrace new ways of sharing news with their audiences.”
Both the Citizen and the Sealy News are recognized as trustworthy, long-standing sources of information in their respective communities.
The Citizen, one of the oldest continuously published newspapers in Texas, was founded in 1857 and serves the cities of Columbus, Eagle Lake and Weimar.
