Colorado County Fair kicks off soon

COLUMBUS – It’s that time of year again for artwork, baked goods, flowers, canned foods and fun at the annual Colorado County Fair.
The fair, which features loads of competition in various categories, runs select days in September and will be held at the Colorado County Fairgrounds, 1146 Crossroads Blvd.

COLUMBUS — It’s that time of year again for artwork, baked goods, flowers, canned foods and fun at the annual Colorado County Fair.

The fair, which features loads of competition in various categories, runs select days in September and will be held at the Colorado County Fairgrounds, 1146 Crossroads Blvd.

For entry forms, registration, deadlines and a complete schedule, call the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office at 979-732-2082.

The Colorado County Fair Association and volunteers will be on hand to assist, officials said.

Here is a schedule to register and for openings:

Friday, Sept. 1

Entry forms and fees are due at the Colorado County Ag Extension Office, 316 Spring St., by 3-5 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 12

Accept all entries — 3-6 p.m. at the fairgrounds, Founders Hall

Wednesday, Sept. 13

Creative Homemaking Department closed to the public

Accept baked goods and horticulture specimen entries — 7:30-9 a.m. Judging at 10 a.m.

Thursday, Sept. 14

Creative Homemaking Department open to the public — 1-11 p.m.

Senior Day at The Fair 9:30 a.m. 1 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 15

Creative Homemaking Department open to the public — 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 16

Creative Homemaking Department open to the public — 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Grand and reserve champion pictures taken — 3 p.m.

Items on display can be picked up from 3–6 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 17

Items removed from the Founders Hall from 8-10:30 a.m.

Some of the categories include: fabric and needlework, handicrafts, canned goods, King Arthur (items made with King Arthur Flour), horticulture, collectibles, quilts, commercial quilters, quilters of the future, photography and fine arts.

Check-in is 3-6 p.m. Sept. 12. Judging begins 10 a.m. Sept. 13.

Age divisions are: youth to junior, 4 to 8 years old; youth to intermediate, 9-13; youth to senior, 1419; adult, 20 and older; and assisted living.

According to organizers, an entry fee of $2 per item will be charged for one to 10 items and for 11-50 items, $20 per exhibitor.

There is a maximum of 50 items per exhibitor.

According to the rules, adults may have an additional 10 items in the Adult Flower Show.

Checks should be made to the Colorado County Fair Association. Returned checks will be assessed a $50 fee.
