COLUMBUS — The April 8 regular meeting for the Colorado County Commissioners Court saw the entity change more speed limits on county roads and recognize several proclamations to celebrate national initiatives.

The public hearing to discuss the speed limit on several precinct 2 county roads began at 9:20 a.m. Commissioner Brandt cited that drivers had been driving at a high rate of speed on these roads and expressed an earlier desire to slow these drivers down.

“I keep track of questions and concerns and comments when it comes to speed limits and road signs,” Commissioner Brandt said, “There was a concern about the speed which is 60 mph... If people are moving slower, hopefully they’re paying more attention to their surroundings.”

As a result of the hearing and the unanimous vote by the Commissioners, the following roads will now be set at 40 mph:

• County Road 200 from County Road 202 intersection to the Fayette County line.

• County Road 201 from Highway 90 intersection to the Fayette County line.

• All of County Road 204.

• All of County Road 220.

Colorado Valley Telephone will continue its fiber optic cable projects as they move to install buried fiber optic cables on county road 218.

The Commissioners honored Brenda Henkes on her retirement as a dispatcher and loyal employee for the Sheriff’s office over the years The Commissioners also read a proclamation that recognized April 14 through April 20 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators’ week to celebrate dispatchers and emergency operators.

There were several other proclamations as well: the month of April is recognized as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention month, and the week of April 28 to May 5 as Texas Soil and Water Stewardship week.

The Commissioners will meet for another regularly scheduled meeting on the first day of early voting on April 22.
