Colorado County officials ask residents to report control burns to the Colorado County Sheriffs Office Communication Center at (979) 732-2388 and select option two. The county reports that two fire calls were dispatched this past weekend as possible structure fires. Upon arrival by the fire departments, it was discovered that the fires were trash piles or tree limbs set on fire using combustible/flammable liquids that produced large columns of black smoke. “While our firefighters know that emergency response comes with a certain amount of inherent risk, trash and tree limbs are not worth the risk of serious injury or death,” Colorado County Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Chuck Rogers said. Please call the CCSO Communications Center to report all control burns and monitor the fire until it has safely subsided.
