Eagle Lake adopting new water meters, updating laws

The City of Eagle Lake met on Jan. 10 to discuss updating its junked vehicle ordinance policy. The current definition includes expired license plates. The city is working more on defining what is considered a “junk” vehicle.

The city also discussed a telecommunications license agreement with AirCanopy Internet Services, Inc. dba Rise Broadband Services. City Manager Charles “Tink” Jackson said that the service is expected to provide better service than AT&T. This service will not interfere with Spectrum nor the tower behind the 3013 Apartments because it is intended for business voice lines. They will discuss more at the next meeting.

The city is also looking at roads within the city and assessing the ones that need the most work. So far, the pavement along Prairie Street, Walnut Street, and most of Union Street have been restored. Jackson will have further details on the areas that will be worked on.

The city also implementing a new water meter replacement project to replace residential and commercial water meters. According to the city, a company named Accurate Meter and Supply will conduct the meter swap. Residents will not be charged for a new meter. The city said the American Rescue Plan act is funding the water for the meters. This project will start on Jan. 17 and take place over the next year.
