GLIDDEN — The crack of gunfire filled the air around Ms. Molly’s bar nearly an hour after midnight on Sunday, Jan. 28. The reported shots fired at the Glidden bar led to the arrests of two men who were found with two handguns that are alleged to be the weapons in use during the firing.

Dequan Grounds, 26, and Deshawn Williams, 17, were apprehended and taken into custody after being found in the alleged vehicle that patrons reported seeing shots flying from their direction.

The Colorado County Sheriff’s Department in tandem with the Texas Department of Public Safety dispatched to investigate the reports of weapon discharge when they were alerted that an unidentified number of people in a white four-door car seemed to be the source of the gunfire.

Deputies and Troopers arrived at the scene to assess injuries and confirmed that there were no victims from the shooting. Following an investigation at the bar, the combined force then searched the surrounding area for the car reported to be used in the getaway.

Officers quickly found a vehicle that matched the description in the area and performed a stop and search after receiving consent to look through the contents inside. The search resulted in the discovery of two handguns with bullets that matched the casings uncovered at the scene of the crime.

Grounds of Houston and Williams of Eagle Lake were each taken into custody after further investigation into the matter. Williams was arrested for Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon for possession under 18 years old as well as Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon on Alcohol Premises. Grounds was arrested after the police discovered an outof- county warrant following a search of his file.

The suspects were booked and housed at the Colorado County jail to await bail hearings.

The Sheriff’s Office expressed their ‘gratitude’ to the TXDPS and the Columbus Police Department “for their dedicated work and assistance” according to a release by the Sheriff’s Office.
