TxDOT projects for Columbus

The City of Columbus met on Jan. 9 and heard concerns from residents about reports of flooding on Fairview Street which intersects with Highway 90. City Manager Donald Warschak advised council that the reasoning for this could be due to water not flowing in the correct direction. The city said it will reach out to TxDOT concerning this issue. Warschak said that Tx-DOT will have a ditch cleaning project near the highway along FM 806 (Cardinal Lane).

The Signal Light Project on Highway 71 at Fannin Street will begin during the summer. Warschak said that TxDOT will start the project after it has completed installing signal lights in Dewitt County.

The city will be also applying for the Transportation Alternatives Grant Program for the project area on Montezuma Street. The application is due at the end of January for the initial step of the application process.

The city reported that water used from Dec. 15, 2022, until Feb. 15, 2023, will determine residents’ sewer rates for the upcoming year.

City council is also working with the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission on a proposed ordinance regarding governing food trucks and temporary food vendors.
