Claude Conrad Rhodes served his country during WWII in Company L of the U.S. Army 172nd Infantry Regiment as a Technician Fifth Grade. Drafted on April 2, 1942 and stationed in the Asia-Pacific theater, Claude spent time on both the Philippine island of Luzon and the Solomon Islands. Primarily performing support duties in heavy construction and carpentry, he also earned a Rifle Marksman Certification in 1944. After serving 3 years, 7 months and 13 days, Claude was honorably discharged with a Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal - 2 Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal - 1 Star, a Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, 1 Service Stripe and 5 Overseas Service Bars.
