The Weimar Vets opened the 2020 Community League baseball season with a 17-3 victory over Giddings this past Sunday in Giddings. Strong pitching and stellar hitting resulted in the victory. Cody Barrett earned the victory striking out twelve, scattering eight hits, allowing three runs, and walking none.

Dylan Blaha closed the game striking out two and allowing no runs, leading the offensive attack were Blaha (three hits, five runs scored, two runs batted in, and two walks), Tanner Sumbera (two hits [home run], three runs scored, five runs batted in, and one walk), Brody Gall (two hits [double], two runs batted in, and one run scored), Dayton Milner (three hits, two runs batted in, two runs scored), Jarrod Hinze (one hit, one run scored), Cody Barrett (three hits, one run batted in), Ty Boedeker (two hits [double], one run scored), Jeff Osborns (one hit), Ryan Rerich (two walks, two runs scored), Colb Rainosek (one walk), and Brooks Norris (courtesy runner, three stolen bases, two runs scored).

The Vets took an early lead in the first 2-0. It got close in the 6th inning with the score of 7-3, and an explosive 7th and 8th inning, scoring four and six runs, put the game away. Defensive standouts Hinze, Rerich, and Rainosek limited potential base runners.

Community League amateur baseball games weren’t played this past weekend, and the ones scheduled for this coming weekend have been cancelled.
