Even though his book, “The Kreisches of La Grange,” is already in print, Charles Hebert still keeps finding new artifacts and stories about the family who “brewed beer on the Bluff” in La Grange. Heinrich Kreische built Kreische Brewery in 1860, one of the first commercial breweries in Texas. By 1879, it was the third largest brewery in the state. Today the remains of the brewery are part of Monument Hill & Kreische Brewery State Historic Sites in La Grange. Heber entertained the Weimar Rotary Club last week with tales of the Kreische family and new information his research has recently unearthed. Showing the book are Heber and Jennifer McCoskey, president of the Rotary Club.
