Alfred George Jamison, 83, of Frelsburg, passed away May 1 in Columbus. He was born to Clarence and Margaret Jamison in Toledo, OH May 11, 1937. Al graduated from Libby High School (Toledo) in 1955. Attending Colgate University (Hamilton, NY) on an academic scholarship, Al graduated with a degree in Geology in 1959. While at Colgate, Al played football and was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. After graduation, Al played football for the Houston Oilers from 1960 to 1962, where he was team captain and an All-Pro Selection. Al’s football career ended due to a severe back injury. Following his football career, he was a sports talk radio personality in Houston.

During the off-season in football, Al started a career in the construction equipment business that spanned several decades. In 1996, he retired from the equipment business and he and his wife, Riana, moved to Frelsburg. Two years later, Al successfully ran for the office of Colorado County Judge and proudly served for 12 years.

Nothing gave Al more pleasure than serving the citizens of Colorado County during his time as County Judge where he made nu merous friends (and a few enemies). He mentored young people and formed strong bonds with those whose paths he crossed. Al served on the Board of Champion Valley Boys & Girls Club and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Frelsburg. Al had several hobbies over the years including playing the banjo, boating, scuba diving, flying his plane, and traveling. The highlight of Al’s life was taking his entire family for Christmas vacations for almost 20 years.

Al is survived by his loving wife, Riana Jamison, of Frelsburg; daughter, Barbara Duecker, of Houston; sons, Alan (Wendy) of Rockport and David (Beth) of Frisco, and niece, Kelly Petrino (daughter, Erin), of Geneva, IL. He is also survived by grandchildren Brooke Raish (Andrew), Tyler Harris (Julie), Tamara Diemer (Neal), Seth Jamison, Emily Drennan (Jonathan), Jack and Ava Jamison and seven great-grandchildren.

Al is preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Richard Bock, and sister, Patricia Patrino.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 8 from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, followed by A Celebration of Life for Al at 2 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, with Pastor Alan Kethan officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are Andrew Raish, Tyler Harris, Neal Diemer, Seth Jamison, Jonathan Drennan, Jack Jamison, and Butch Besch.

The Jamison family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice, the staff of TLC, Columbus Community Hospital, Dr. Bart Klaus, and Yvonne King for their care and kindness. They also thank their loving friends for their support.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Champion Valley Boys & Girls Club, P.O. Box 897, Weimar, TX 78962 or Trinity Lutheran Church in Frelsburg, P.O. Box 245, New Ulm, TX 78950 or the charity of your choice.
