Lawrence “L.T.” Baron, 89, of Columbus, passed away Jan. 14 in Columbus.

He was born Aug. 24, 1932 to Peter William Baron and Amelia (Gully) Baron in Rutersville. He married Beatrice “Bea” Hrachovy Nov. 25, 1952. They were married for 66 years.

After graduating from La Grange High School, L.T. became a sergeant in the U.S. Army and proudly served in the Korean War. Following his service, L.T. attended Texas A&M University where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. He and his family moved to Columbus in 1963. He loved his work and practiced veterinary medicine for over 55 years.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and he attended St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus and St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger.

L.T. always spoke of how much he enjoyed working with his clients and their animals. He loved being able to help and thoroughly enjoyed his work. He was also a rancher and spent most of his time outdoors. He and Bea also both loved to travel, and they especially loved to icefish and go cross country-skiing.

L.T. is survived by his sons Fred Baron and wife Toni of El Campo, Richard Baron and wife Debbie of Columbus, Kenneth Baron and wife Debbie of Columbus and his daughter Audrey Huntley and husband E.J. of Houston; grandchildren Pam Sandrock, Cindy Rasco, Kristy Barten, Rebecca Baron, Cathy Baron, Stephen Baron, Christina Huntley, and Ryan Huntley; great-grandchildren Dylan Sandrock, Tyler Sandrock, Danica Barten, Bella Barten, Mason Heizer, Lela Heizer, and Jovie Heizer.

He was preceded in death by his parents Peter Baron and Amelia Baron; wife Beatrice “Bea” Baron; brother Lambert Baron and an infant brother.

E.J. Huntley, Ryan Huntley, Eric Sandrock, Dylan Sandrock, Tyler Sandrock and Shawn Rasco served as pallbearers.
