Alfred Grover Beyer, Jr. departed this life Apr. 25. He was born on Sept. 18, 1928 to parents Alfred G. Beyer, Sr. and Lousie (Plengemeyer) Beyer in Colorado County near Ellinger.

A.G. graduated from La Grange High School in 1945. Shortly after graduation he went to work for the Chevrolet Division of General Motors, retiring in June 1987. In between he also attended the University of Houston and served in the Army Medical Corp during the Korean Conflict.

He enjoyed traveling, hunting, and fishing with friends and family.

His parents and his sister Olivia Kubena preceded Al in death.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Hodde Beyer, celebrating 72 years of marriage at their last wedding anniversary on Sept. 24, 2021. He is also survived by his daughters Lynda Levinski and husband Don, and Rena Reiner and husband Eric. He also had seven grandchildren, Leigh-Anne, Donald, JoLynn, Darlene, Meghan, Buddy and Charlotte and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was Tuesday, May 3 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, with Fr. Augustine N. Asante officiating.

Visitation was also Monday, May 2 at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. A parish prayer service and rosary followed.

Burial is in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus.

Pallbearers were Donald Levinski, Eric “Buddy” Reiner, Ken Hodde, David Hodde, J.D. Williams and Bruce Kubena.
