Gladys Slovak Bubela, age 94, was born to William and Josephine Slovak Nov. 9, 1927 in La Grange. She passed away Dec. 31, 2021 in Columbus. She spent most of her school years in El Campo and married Hugo Bubela, Jr. July 14, 1947.

Gladys was a great wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, deer hunting, fishing, puzzling, baking and cooking and, most of all, spending time with her family and friends.

Gladys was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Christian Mothers and Room Mother at St. Mary’s School.

She was preceded in death by: husband, Hugo Bubela, Jr.; parents, William and Josephine Slovak; brother, Lt. William R. Slovak; and daughterin-law, Debbie Bubela.

She is survived by: sons, William “Billy” Bubela and wife Barbara of El Campo and Patrick Bubela of Livingston; daughters, Bonnie Beaird and husband Jim of New Ulm, and Donna Bubela of Nada; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great grandchildren; two step-great great grandchildren; and sister, Delores “Dody” Green and husband Lewis “Eddie” of Hockely.

Serving as pallbearers are Kevin Bubela, Kent Bubela, Shawn Guthrie, Johnathan Guthrie, Matthew Beaird and Patrick Bubela, Jr.

Due to COVID, there will be a private family service with burial following in Holy Cross Memorial Park in El Campo.
