Peter Daniel Canaris, age 51, of Eagle Lake, passed away at 11:08 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston following a sudden battle with leukemia.

He was born February 18, 1968 in Eagle Lake to Pete and Janette Frnka Canaris. He graduated from Rice High School in 1986 and then attended the University of Houston.

He returned to Eagle Lake in 1990 to work alongside his dad at their family business, Canaris Nursery and Garden Center. After his father’s death, Peter continued to run the business his parents began until his untimely death.

Peter married Kari Seaholm in Eagle Lake on February 18, 1995. They actually met as very young kids but became good friends in her junior year at Rice High School. His wit, his charm and his big smile led to a lasting relationship. They were blessed with two sons, Tallon Michael and Dray-ton Daniel.

As the kids grew-up, Peter became active with the Eagle Lake Little League, was “Mr. Mom” for class parties at the primary school and was active in the Rice Raider Booster Club. He also served many years with the Eagle Lake Volunteer Fire Department and participated in many other community projects.

Peter was extremely proud of both sons. His mom was a nurse, and he would boast about Tallon continuing the medical background tradition as he completed his EMT certification and continues his studies to become a Paramedic. And, Peter was looking forward to Drayton’s participation in football, baseball and golf during his senior year at Rice High School and was extremely proud of his academic success.

Friends, classmates and family members have been offering remembrances of Peter. Most have noted his “spunky attitude,” his big smile that “could light up a room,” his “boisterous and infectious” laugh and his “one of a kind huge heart.” Some were impressed with his knowledge of flowers, adding “he knew them all.” Many shared their amazement with his landscaping skills, fence building expertise and his professionalism in the lawn care business. Peter was extremely proud to have his sons working alongside him.

A few good friends remembered “adventurous and memorable” fishing trips in the pond behind the Canaris Nursery. Several customers have noted Peter’s enthusiastic assistance in picking out a Christmas tree, noting that “he was more excited than us.”

A big fan of the Denver Broncos is what stood-out to many. Peter was able to attend several games over the years and it was quite obvious that he was “extremely…very extremely” proud when his team won the Superbowl. Needless to say, his favorite color was Bronco orange.

The family made several journeys to Galveston to enjoy the sights and sounds of the island city. While Kari and the kids loved the beach and splashing in the salt water waves, Peter was content with floating in the purity and the peacefulness of the hotel swimming pool.

Peter was a special man that loved life and loved to smile and wave at anybody that would look his way. He adored his wife, admired and respected his sons, was friendly to everyone, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Peter was baptized in the Catholic faith where he was attending Parish of the Nativity Church in Eagle Lake.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 24 years, Kari Seaholm Canaris; children, Tallon Michael and Drayton Daniel; brother, Michael John Canaris, Eagle Lake; mother, Janette Canaris, Eagle Lake.
