Alfonso (Al) Crixell, Jr. passed away Feb. 14 in Pearland. He was born Aug. 18, 1945, in Brownsville to Alfonso Crixell and Rebecca Villarreal Crixell. His family moved to Houston when he was 12 years old and he graduated from Milby High School in 1963. He served in the United States Army in Fulda, Germany, from 1966 to 1968. On Apr. 20, 1968, he married Elenor Ann Brune in Columbus.

From 1976 to 1996, Al was employed by Monsanto in the Ethylene Unit as an Operator and later became Supervisor in the Maintenance Department. In 1996 he retired from Occidental Chemical after Monsanto changed hands numerous times. He was also fortunate to have retired from Weyerhaueser prior to working for Monsanto. At this time, Elenor retired from banking and they moved to their weekend home in Rockport. To keep from being bored, Al worked part time at the Rockport Beach Park as a Cashier and Elenor went to work at International Bank of Commerce, also in Rockport.

Al is survived by Elenor, his wife of 53 years and his son, Alfonso (Cris) Crixell, III (fiancé Anne Nivers). He is also survived by his sisters, Candy Dumas of Mountain View, AR and Becky Hopper of Batavia, IL; brother-in-law A. J. Brune, III (Cece) of Midland and sister-in-law, Joan B. Lovell of La Grange. Other surviving relatives include his nieces, nephews and several cousins. Al was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, grandparents, several aunts and uncles, brother-in-law, Jim Lovell and so sadly, his nephew and godson, Louis Beveridge.

In 1999, Al suffered a stroke at the age of 53. Unfortunately he lost the ability to verbalize; however, he continued to have a full life. He loved to go fishing, hunting, traveling and going to the casino. Al and Elenor moved to Pearland, in 2005 to be closer to their son. Neighbors recognized Al as the “guy driving the golf cart with his little dog”. Of course, Al didn’t play golf but accompanied his son many times to the golf course to watch him play.

Al will be cremated. At his request, there will be no formal religious ceremony as he has made peace with his Lord and Savior. Al always enjoyed a good time, so his loved ones will honor him with a celebration from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 at Forest Park South Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The family is being assisted by Forest Park South Funeral Home 12650 Shadow Creek Pkwy, Pearland, TX 77584 (832)553-0160. Messages of condolence may be shared by visiting www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/10586396.
