Richard Wesley French, age 75, passed away Dec. 20 in Columbus. He was born to Paul Richard and Ione Elizabeth (Chapman) French on July 11, 1944 in Baytown.

Richard worked as a taxi driver, a security guard for Thousand Oaks and also worked for McCoy’s and Ace hardware stores at various times during his life. He donated to charities for veterans, children’s hospitals and animals. He loved football, especially the Dallas Cowboys, and baseball, but his favorite sport to watch was wrestling.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Elizabeth French.

Richard is survived by his wife of 20 years, Mary Ann (Walls) French; son, David Lackey and wife Susan of Grand Bay, AL; stepsons, Eddie Gundelach and wife Debra of Sheridan, Chris Gundelach and wife Crystal of Columbus, and Michael Nichols of Columbus; step-daughters, Rhonda Honeycutt and husband Kenny of Seabrook and Deborah Gonzales of Hallettsville; sister, Donna Clarrissimeaux and husband David of Orlando, FL; brother, Gary French and wife Gwen of League City; grandchildren, Destiny Lackey and Megan Lackey; and numerous nephews, nieces and step-grandchildren.

Visitation for Richard was Thursday, Dec. 26 at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. Funeral service was Friday, Dec. 27, also at Henneke Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Usher officiating. Burial followed at Earth-man Memory Gardens Cemetery in Baytown.
