GEORGE DONATO

George Anthony Donato, 85, passed away Dec. 4, 2022, in Columbus, Texas. He was born on Feb. 15, 1937 in Canton, Ohio, to Eli and Sarah Donato. He married Nancy Jean Donato on May 14, 1975.

George served in the Army and Army Reserve; he began his career as a machinist, then retired from Stewart and Stevenson Services Inc. of Sealy, Texas, where they manufactured Army trucks. He was an ISO quality control auditor, then continued as an independent ISO quality control auditor.

He did consulting work for several years after he retired, then decided to truly enjoy real retirement at 78. His hobbies were working out four days a week at Columbus Health and Fitness, riding his bicycle and watching football. His favorite sport to watch was college basketball.

George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 44 years and his brother Daniel Donato.

Survivors include sister Rosemary Remz of Apple Valley, California; son Dean A. Donato of Marana, Arizona; daughter Cheryl Donato Niesz and husband Anthony of Canton; stepdaughter Julie Newcomb and husband Richard of Rosharon, Texas; stepsons George C. Rager of Tomball, Texas, and David Rager of Blanco, Texas; and five grandchildren.
