Glenda S. Siewert, 77, of Columbus, died unexpectedly of COVID-19 in Methodist Hospital Jan. 7, 2021. She was born July 10, 1943 in Eagle Lake, the daughter of John Allen Speck and Evelyn Mae Speck. Glenda graduated from Rock Island High School, class of ‘61. Following graduation, she attended Cosmetology School in Houston and earned her practicing license. In 1962, she married Horst Siewert and they celebrated 58 years of marriage last fall. Their careers took them to Houston, Colorado Springs CO, Shreveport LA, San Jose CA, and eventually settled in Columbus, where she opened her own salon, Trimmer’s Den, and Merle Norman Cosmetics. She was a member of Rock Island Full Gospel Church. Her hobbies included oil painting and attending Community Bible Study. She fiercely loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Ricky Allen Speck and her sister Marcella Maertz.
Glenda is survived by her husband Horst Siewert; her children John Scott Siewert and his wife Melody of Columbus, and Susan Renee’ Naiser and her husband Derek of Boerne; brother Jim Rex Speck and his wife Betty. Glenda also had five grandchildren, Joshua Siewert and wife Amanda, Katie Naiser, Cassie Naiser, Jessica Siewert, and Clay Naiser, as well as three great-grandchildren: Ronan Siewert, River Siewert, and Remi Siewert.
A private graveside service of remembrance was held at Myrtle Cemetery in Rock Island with Brother Calvin Harris officiating.
