Judith “Judy” Ann (Beirne) Glueck passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 14 at home in Cat Spring. She leaves her husband of 50 years, James; her children, Alicea (Michael), James, Laura (Dennis), and Jonathon (Laura); her grandchildren, Mac, Aaron, Madison, Aideen, Mason, Elizabeth, Annabelle, and Frederick. She is also survived by her brother Jim and many nieces, nephews, and other loved ones. Judy was preceded in death by her parents William and Winifred, brothers Bill and John Beirne, and grandson Anthony Chaloupka.

Judy was born Feb. 22, 1950 in Houston and attended St. Agnes High School and the University of Houston. Although raised in Houston, throughout her adult life Judy lived in Bryan; Tifton, GA; Hereford; Columbus; El Campo; Canyon; Keller; and Cat Spring. With each move, she broadened her circle of friends and loved ones.

She was a lifelong educator—teaching in Houston, El Campo, Canyon, Keller, and Amarillo; volunteering with 4-H youth development programs in Colorado, Wharton, and Randall Counties; and active in the local Catholic Church.

Judy taught a range of grades and subjects, but she found special joy in helping Jr. High students discover the wonders of science. She treasured chance encounters with former students and colleagues who offered updates on their lives.

A funeral mass will be at St. Roch Catholic Church in Mentz Thursday, Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Robert Knippenberg officiating.

Visitation will be at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A parish rosary will follow at 6 p.m. Additional visitation will be available at St. Roch Catholic Church on Thursday from 9 – 10 a.m.

Burial will take place in Mentz at St. Roch Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the family requests attendees wear masks and take other precautions.

Pallbearers include sons James and Jonathon, sons-in-law Michael Chaloupka and Dennis Jamouneau, and grandsons Mac and Aaron Chaloupka. Honorary pallbearers include brother Jim Beirne and grandsons Mason Chaloupka and Frederick Jamouneau.
