GREAK

Kathryn Jane Harris Greak was born June 4, 1954 to Georgia Jacobs Harris and Volum Lawrence Harris. She was born at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, and was welcomed home by three sisters, Patricia, Martha and Janice. Kathy attended Columbus High School and shortly after, married the love of her life, Sidney William Greak, of Borden, on July 8, 1972 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Weimar. On May 4, 1976 they welcomed their only child, Jennifer Marie, with pride and joy.

Kathy and Sid owned and operated Greak’s U-Serve & Save, Greak’s Shell in Columbus and later, Greak’s Emporium in Alleyton. She also owned and operated Georgie’s Girls in Columbus and El Campo with her sister, Janice. She served on the Children’s Protective Services Board, was a room mother extraordinaire, and an amazing secret Santa. Kathy loved traveling with her family and visiting the casino every once in a while. The Greaks went on many amazing trips as a family visiting Alaska, New Mexico, Mississippi, Mexico, the Bahamas and numerous other places.

Kathy was quick witted and had a huge heart. She always told you just like it was whether you liked it or not. She is the loving wife of Sid Greak, and beloved mother of Jennifer Greak Newman and mother-in-law to Terry Newman. She always told everyone that God only gave her one daughter, but he gave her the best. Jennifer will do her best to continue to make her mother proud. She is the treasured Grandma of Sidney, Joshua and Kathryn Newman. Loved Aunt of Stephanie Rester Edgell and husband Sam, Stacey Rester Stanzione and husband Jason, Brian Rester and Brittany Chamberlain. Grand nieces and nephews Taylor, Chloe, Ashley, Christopher, Luke, Dylan, Gunnar and Cheyanne. Kathy considered her greatest accomplishment and her most important job raising her daughter Jennifer and helping raise her nieces and nephew.

Kathy was preceded in death and welcomed in to Heaven by her mother, Georgia, father Volum, and sister, Patricia.

Memorial service was Monday, Dec. 30 at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, with Deacon Doug Tromblee officiating. There was a Catholic Daughter Rosary Monday at 9:30 a.m. Burial followed at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus.
