HARVEY SKOW

Harvey Edward Skow, of Columbus, passed away May 13 in Katy at the age of 84. He was born to Jeppa Madsen Skow and Gudrun Margrete Hansen Skow Jan. 27, 1937 in El Campo. He married Beverly Dean Brieger June 12, 1960.

Harvey graduated from El Campo High School in 1955 and served in the United States Army. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for Alcoa for 39 years before retiring in 1999. He also served as a building inspector for the city of Point Comfort from 1980 until 1999. After retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, camping, hunting, and fishing. Harvey will be remembered for being a great husband, father, and grandfather. Also, for his devotion to the church and his willingness and kindness to help everyone he met. His favorite comment was, “I retired to go to work.”

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Jeppe and Gudrun Skow; and sister, Lorine Treumer.

Harvey is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly Skow of Columbus; sons Dwayne Skow and wife Angela of Ft. Worth and Kevin Skow of Katy and grandchild Kara Skow.

The funeral service was Tuesday, May 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus with

Pastor Alan Kethan officiating. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., also at the church. Burial followed at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery in El Campo.

Serving as pallbearers: Walter Guthmann, Lester Gene Foster, Danny Kantz, Al Gene Chollett, Harold Boehnke, Matthew Werckle, Bobby Obrient and George Migl. Serving as an honorary pallbearer: Melvin Otto.
