Janice Kansteiner Canik passed away Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, in the early morning hours at Columbus Oaks Assisted Living in Columbus, Texas.

She was born on Sept. 11, 1933, to Edgar and Hilda Brod Kansteiner near Cat Spring, Texas. She was raised on the farm and attended Bretschneider School nearby.

Janice lived in Columbus, where she raised five children. She worked at the Colorado County tax office and Colorado County Appraisal District, where she later retired.

Janice was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, Catholic Daughters of America and the Altar Society. She was a devoted Christian and mother. Janice enjoyed traveling, quilting, playing dominos and cards with her friends, gardening and working in her yard. She loved spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Kimberly Michelle Raabe and son-in-law William “Bill” Raabe.

Survivors include David Canik and wife Lucy, Gerald Canik and wife Leslie, Russell Canik and wife Ann, Debra Rerich and husband Charlie, Kathleen Wick and husband Bill. She is survived by 12 grandchildren: Travis Canik and wife Jenna, Austin Canik, Dallas Canik and wife Gleisy, Julie Gale and husband Nathan, Joseph Canik, John Canik, William H. Raabe III and wife Rachel, Alexandria Hudec and husband Kyle, Jonathon Wick and wife Kelly, Amy Knellinger and husband Clayton, Emily Shupak and husband David, and Christopher Wick and wife Sarah.

Other survivors include 17 great-grandchildren; Olivia Canik, Jackson Canik, Madeline Canik, Bradley Canik, Iris Gale, Ramona Gale, Joanna Melanson, Ava Hudec, Caleb Hudec, Jacob Wick, Kaden Wick, Noah Wick, Lanie Knellinger, Kenzie Knellinger, Ellie Jo Knellinger, Emma Kate Shupak and Dane Shupak, Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2022, at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus.

A parish prayer service and rosary followed at 7 p.m. led by Deacon John Glueck.

Funeral services were 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with the Rev. Augustine N. Asante officiating.

Burial took place at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joseph Canik, John Canik, Jonathon Wick, Christopher Wick, William H. Raabe III, Travis Canik, Austin Canik, Dallas Canik and Kyle Hudec.

Honorary pallbearers were Nathan Gale, David Shupak and Clayton Knellinger.

Janice was a person of great character and she will be dearly missed by all her family.
