1974-2022 Jason Alan (“Jaybird”) Reichle passed away at the age of 48 at his home in Castroville, Texas, on September 14, 2022, with his loving wife Ursula, by his side. Jason was at peace and went to be with his Lord and Savior, knowing his Victory was won.

He was born on January 4, 1974, in Bellville, Texas, to Jake Alan Reichle and Melanie (Cossman) Reichle. He was baptized at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Houston on April 17, 1976, and was confirmed on May 22, 1988, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Jason attended school in Sugarland, where he lived with his mom, Melanie. Growing up, he enjoyed playing with his cousins, Spring and Lee, at his Aunt Kim’s home, where they shared many good memories together with his grandparents, mom, and other family. Jason moved to New Ulm his seventh-grade year to live with his dad and stepmom, Kim. Together they lived on their land where Jason learned about raising cattle, plowing, planting corn, and making hay.

Jason and his cousin, “Bubba,” who was more like a brother, were the two oldest grandkids and learned to butcher a hog, make sausage, and play dominoes with their relatives at the grandparents’ home in New Ulm. Jason learned to hunt and clean a deer with his dad and shot his first 8-point buck on his Uncle Mike’s land in the Santa Anna River bottom in Ellinger. Bucky still hangs on the wall in his childhood home in New Ulm.

In his youth, Jason was very active in school and participated in FFA three years of high school and served on the Junior Colorado County Fair Board. Jason also played baseball, ran track, and was a regional finalist for 200-meters. His true love was playing football, where he excelled as a running back on his beloved Columbus Cardinal Varsity team. Number “20” was first team All District, first team Tri-County, and All Greater Houston Running Back and Most Valuable Player his senior year, and was voted to the Homecoming Court and awarded Most School Spirit.

To say that Jason was enthusiastic about football is an understatement. He bled red for his hometown fighting cardinals as a running back. Jason was destined to always be a “Red Cardinal” and continues to fly high and watch over his girls, Haylee and Paige, as they continue to mature and grow and reach their own goals in life. Jason’s step-grandparents never missed a football game and cheered him on proudly. His cousin, Clayton, followed in Jason’s footsteps as a Cardinal, asking for number “20” to be his number when he played football.

Jason was also a Texas Longhorn Football fanatic and collected anything burnt orange that had Texas Longhorns on it. He boasted proudly about his two cousins, Amy and Katie, being Longhorn cheerleaders. He even had a HUGE Longhorn sign in his living room at one time.

Jason attended Sam Houston State University and then started his career in surveying. During this time as a field surveyor, he was led to Buffalo, Texas, where his first daughter, Haylee, was born. The family later moved to Sealy, Texas, where his daughter Paige was born. Jason was employed as a draftsman for Exterran Corporation, an energy company, for six years in the Columbus area. Jason always knew his daughters were two of God’s special gifts and he was eternally grateful for both of them.

Jason loved Halloween and to go around their neighborhood with the girls’ trick or treating and talking about what they wanted to be for Halloween. He loved their softball games and would holler loud because he was so competitive! It was hard for him to be the quiet parent. He loved watching the girls’ dance recitals and fireworks on New Year’s Eve with a good fire in his firepit and family life.

After a major layoff shut down the plant in Columbus, Jason went back to work as a truck driver which eventually led him to Cuatro, in Hondo, and to his beloved wife, Ursula, and the wonderful, caring Ramos family. Jason and Ursula were married on May 11, 2020. They vowed to serve God together and made wonderful memories traveling, eating, and enjoying the outdoors over the past three years. Jason eventually found his dream job that aligned with his ranching/farming background whi le growing up when he became employed at John Deere/Tellus in Castroville.

Jason loved the rodeo and volunteered his service on a committee for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for several years. He also loved Lake LBJ, along with any other watering hole, because he swam like a fish. He enjoyed watching his girls grow up at the lake, just as he did, and took pride in the fact that they also enjoyed tubing, boat riding and jet skiing.

Later in his life, he enjoyed spending time on the Medina River with Ursula and their extended family. His love for a good campfire, which started as a young child while making sausage, carried with him throughout his life and so did a good game of 42 dominoes. We’re rest assured he’s playing 42 in Heaven with his dad and grandpas.

Jason was preceded in death by his father, Jake Alan Reichle; his grandfathers, Lawrence Alfred Reichle, Frank Paul Cossman and his wife, Lorene Cossman (step-grandmother); his grandmother, Margie Hartman; and his step-grandfather, Nick Arnold.

Jason is survived by his wife, Ursula, of Castroville; his two daughters, Haylee and Paige Reichle, of Sealy; his mother, Melanie Scholler (Dave), of La Grange; his stepmom, Kim Reichle, of New Ulm; grandmother, Wilma Reichle, of Buda; step grandmother, Janis Arnold, of Columbus; in-laws, Cesar and Margaret Ramos, of Castroville; his extended in-law Ramos family of sisters, brothers, children, and grandchildren; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jason was fortunate to have such a large family that he cherished and that loved him as well.

Services for Jason Alan Reichle were be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022, at Faith Tabernacle Full Gospel Church, 105 CR 1500, Moore, Texas, or 105 West First Street, Moore, Texas, 78057. There were no graveside services. Pastor Darrell Mellene officiated.

Pallbearers were Spring Parker, Larry “Bubba” Reichle, Lee Matthews, Bryan Evans, Todd Nelson, Clayton Arnold, and Bobby Hassell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to his church, Faith Tabernacle Ful l Gospel Church located in Moore, Texas (mailing address: 1781 State Highway 173 North, Devine, Texas, 78016), or to the charity of your choice in Jason’s memory.
