1935-2022 Karen Reinhard Brod, age 87, of Bernardo, Texas, received his heavenly homecoming on September 29, 2022, with his wife of 66 years by his side.

Karen was born on June 9, 1935, at home in Frelsburg, Texas, to Reinhard Brod and Luci le ( Weishuhn) Brod. He was the oldest of five children. Karen attended Bernardo School and graduated from Columbus High School in 1954. He married the love of his life, Robbie “Bobbie” Class on June 26, 1956. They were blessed with one son, Kent.

Karen was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1958. While serving, he was a pitcher for the U.S. Army Baseball Team. Karen was honorably discharged in 1964.

Karen and Bobbie made their home in Columbus, Texas. Karen worked as an oil field repair technician for 26 years, retiring in 1994 from Getty/Texaco Oil. Upon his retirement, he worked part time as a field sales representative for Columbus Bearing and most importantly he got to enjoy time with his cows. He fully enjoyed being in the pasture with his “girls.”

Karen loved the community he lived in and showed it by being fully involved. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, in Columbus, until they moved to Bernardo in 1982. He then joined St. Roch Catholic 

Church. Karen was fully involved with all parts of the church; from maintenance to being a eucharistic minister, parish counsel and head of the annual Mentz Church Picnic. Karen was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, being Grand Knight for two years for council 10249.

Karen was a member of the Bernardo Volunteer Fire Department for over 45 years. He served as President for 13 years. Karen played baseball for the Bernardo Hurricanes Baseball team and cooked BBQ for the Bernardo Bears Team. For years, he was the supply chairman for the Bernardo Volunteer Fire Department picnic and could be found supplying the men with support at all fire calls.

Karen loved his family deeply and was a devoted husband to Bobbie for 66 years. He always put her first and enjoyed dancing (even square dancing) and traveling with her and friends.

Karen was a devoted father to his only son Kent. He loved all children and showed this by being extremely involved in the Columbus Little League. He was active in getting the Columbus fields built and served as both a coach and umpire. Karen was in charge of the supplies for the concession stand and was chairman of the Little League BBQ for many years. He served as a trustee for nine years on the Columbus Independent School District Board.

He was blessed with two grandchildren, Kaitlon and Kolton, who fondly knew him as “Papa.” He could be found in the stands at every event supporting and cheering them on. Karen enjoyed teaching them al l he knew, and instilled morals, values, and integrity in them, to leave a legacy of the man he was.

Karen is survived by his wife, Bobbie Brod; son, Kent Brod and wife Melissa; grandchildren, Kaitlon Brod and fiancé John Montantez, and Kolton Brod; sisters, Hazel Braden and Irene Morgan; brother, Cecil Brod; and sister-in-law, Frances Brod.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Reinhard Brod and Luci le Brod; brother, Marvin Brod; brothers-in-law, Ray Braden and Bob Morgan; and sister-in-law, Beverly Brod.

Visitation was Tuesday, October 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas. A parish prayer service and rosary was held at 7 p.m. with Deacon Chuck Glynn officiating.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 5, at 2 p.m. at St. Roch Catholic Church in Mentz, Texas, with Fr. Bob Knippenberg officiating. Visitation at the church will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Roch Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Lynn Braden, Troy Brod, Jordan Brod, Tony Van De Walle, Jason Class and Dwayne Henneke.
