Kay Ellen (Zapalac) Karstedt, 77, of La Grange entered into eternal life on May 15, 2023.

A lifelong resident, Kay was born in La Grange, Texas on March 6, 1946, the daughter of Ben and Lillie Millie (Kulhanek) Zapalac.

Kay married the love of her life, James (Jimmy) Karstedt, Sr. on May 25, 1968, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange. Together for 48 years of marriage, until his death, they raised two sons, John and James and a daughter, Katina.

Kay was enthusiastic about life. She loved her an extra player. Kay could take a hit!! And what wonderful photos she captured! She also loved writing about her sons’ games and supporting the home team.

Kay loved her Church and was devout in her Catholic faith. She had a deep and abiding faith. She was involved in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation #1962. She also worked with the JCDA, providing an example to the young girls as they grew in their faith.

She is survived by her daughter, Katina Karstedt of Midland, Texas; son, John Karstedt and wife, Bonny of La Grange, Texas; family and was a devoted, energetic mother. She loved cooking for her family and enjoyed delicious food. She had a love of photography and she used it to document her sons’ football escapades. She sometime became a little too involved in capturing the game on film and became son, James Karstedt, Jr. and wife, Julie of Gonzales, Texas; adopted son, Jimmy Anders and special friend, Theresa Gaskamp Ortiz of Burton, Texas; sisters-in-law: Janie Neiser of Holman; Jo Ann Blume and husband, Richard, of Lockhart; and Teresa Schneider and husband, Jerry, of La Grange; brother- in-law, William Roensch of La Grange; grandchildren: Calley Garcia and husband, Ryan; Kolby Karstedt; Madelyn, Cole, Wyatt and Lillie Karstedt; Dalton and Colton Anders; step grandson, Matt Easley and wife, D’laine and numerous other nieces, nephews and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James “Jimmy” Karstedt, Sr.; father and mother-in-law, Edwin and Lena Karstedt; sister-inlaw, Carol Roensch; and brothers-in-law, Daniel Neiser, Sr. and Edwin Karstedt, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home and Cremations, 208 W. Pearl St., La Grange, Texas 78945. Family will receive friends at this time. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 539 E. Pearl St., La Grange, Texas at 10 a.m. on Monday, 22, 2023. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Center across from Sacred Heart Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to La Grange Baseball Association, PO Box 25, La Grange, Texas 78945 or Sacred Heart Catholic School, 545 E. Pearl St., La Grange, Texas 78945.
