Marlyce “Dusty” Smith, age 66, passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2022, in Columbus, Texas, with her husband Stephen Smith at her side. She was born to Donald and Louise (McLaughlin) Harless on September 22, 1955, in Bethesda, Maryland.

She became a stay-athome mom when their daughters were born. Stephanie Elizabeth Smith was born in 1988 and Melissa Ann Smith was born in Columbus in 1989.

Dusty enjoyed many things in life, but her grandchildren brought her the ultimate joy and she was the most amazing “Mimi.” She loved to crochet and knit and was very talented at it. Dusty loved hunting, fishing, and boating. Rescuing dogs and other animals was a huge passion of hers. She never said “no” to finding a forever home or helping them in any way she could. Dusty was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Louise Harless; daughter Stephanie Smith; sister Cara Hylton; and brother Wayne Harless.

She is survived by her husband of thirty-six years, Stephen Col l ier Smith; daughters Teresa Shankle and husband Chris of Havelock, North Carolina, and Mel issa Smith and husband Josh of Brazoria, Texas; son Jerry Wayne Goad Jr. of Beltsville, Maryland; brother Donald Harless of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Tiffany Shankle, Oliver Bice, Zoey Bice, Miles Bice, and Kayden Bice; brother- in-law Randy Smith of South Padre Island; numerous nieces and nephews; special cousins Stephen and Norma Draper of Columbus, Texas; and many friends and loved ones.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas, with Sam Draper officiating. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home.
