Mathilda Ella Drevojanek Sommerlatte, daughter of Wilhelm F. and Mathilda M.L. Schaefer Drevojanek, age 93, died on July 29, 2021.

A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Nelsonville Brethren Church with Rev. Mike Groseclose officiating. Burial will follow at National Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Nelsonville Brethren Church.

She was born on January 15, 1928, in Bleiblerville, TX, baptized on May 19, 1928, and confirmed on March 17, 1940, at Welcome Lutheran Church. Mathilda attended the Santa Anna Public School. She married Leroy Sommerlatte on November 20, 1946, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, TX. A member of the Nelsonville Brethren Church joined in June 1963, has stayed a faithful member since.

She was a devoted wife and mother and loved her grandchildren. Mathilda loved her flowers and was a great seamstress who could design anything and sew it, and made almost all of her own clothes as well as many shirts and coats for three sons. She also loved working alongside of her husband on their farm and ranch and naming all the cows, taking care of her grandchildren during the summer, and taught them to bake and sew by hand. In the fall she enjoyed picking up pecans to sell in support of her family as well as baking pies! Leroy and Mathilda also enjoyed attending and traveling to his US Navy Reunions (USS Holandia). Her yard was extensive, filled with different types of flowers and trees that she enjoyed while loving to be outdoors. She canned items from her garden including lots of dewberry jelly. Mathilda supported her church and local organizations by donating items from the garden and baking, in particular, her lemon jelly rolls and also sewing. Although Mathilda enjoyed fishing with a cane pole for catfish, she did not eat fish. She also was a faithful member of The Christian Sisters Organization. She had a great desire to continue her education but was unable to due to family obligations. She enjoyed drinking Dr. Pepper.

Mathilda is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Byron and Lavell Sommerlatte, Mike and Sandra Sommerlatte; daughterin-law, Patti Sommerlatte; sister-in-law, Ruby Reinhardt; grandchildren Kyle Sommerlatte, Curtis Sommerlatte, and wife Ashley Inglehart, Lindsey Pasqua, Kelley, and Donnie Lowes, Scot and Jess Sommerlatte and Tracy and Wyatt Matthies, and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband Leroy Sommerlatte; her parents Wilhelm and Mathilda; sisters and brothers-in-law Emma and Herbert Schram Sr., Katarina and Wilbert Makowsky; brother-in-law and wife, Vernon and Nelda Sommerlatte, and son, Dale Sommerlatte.
