LaVerne “Pete” Mikulenka, 96, of Columbus, passed away June 21 in Columbus.

She was born Mar. 5, 1926 to Fred Chollett and Ida (Balzar) Chollett in Shaws Bend. On Jan. 1, 1946 she married James “Jimmie” Mikulenka.

Miss Pete, as she was fondly known as, worked at Mary & Martha’s Cafe where she and Jimmie met. She then worked at QP Grocery before becoming a full-time housewife and homemaker.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where she was also a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Altar Society.

Miss Pete was a devoted Christian and loved Jesus Christ. She enjoyed working in her yard, tending to her flowers and baking. Miss Pete loved to entertain and just spend time with people. She was known for putting on a good party from time to time. She loved trail riding and traveling to Colorado.

Miss Pete is survived by her sister-in-law Juanita “Nita” Mikulenka Boethel and her children Sharon, Susan, Lynette and Delvin; nephew Bobby Lowery, who was a caretaker for both Jimmie and Pete for several years; niece Blanche and her daughter Tanya Mote of Parker, CO where she visited often; special nieces and nephews David, Bernard, Jeanette, Betty, Doris, Denise, Diane, Carol, Kenny, Kathleen, Matthew, Ricky, Rosemary, John, Alan, Linda and Audrey who are all sending her prayers; as well as lots of close friends and a community of people who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Fred Chollett and Ida Chollett; husband James “Jimmie” Mikulenka; sons James “Rusty” Mikulenka and Gary Paul Mikulenka; an infant sister; nephew Denis Boethel.

Visitation was Sunday, June 26 at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. A Parish Prayer Service and Catholic Daughter rosary was held at 4 p.m.

Funeral service was Monday, June 27 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation at was at the church prior to the funeral service. Msgr. John Peters and Deacon John Glueck officiated.

Burial took place in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus.

Pallbearers were John Polach, Clayton Wessels, Roland Gassmann, Bob Moentnish, Paul Cernosek, Ronnie Sevcik and Billy Herchek.
