Alice Elizabeth “Libby” Neiman was born in her home on Shafer Hill, May 31, 1930 in Nashville, Brown County, Indiana.

She was the eighth of nine children raised on a large family farm in Indiana. She married Richard Neiman May 3, 1951, in Columbus, Indiana and together they raised four children in Houston.

Libby was a homemaker and loved working in her flower beds and maintaining her beautiful yard and was proud of the ‘Yard of the Month’ awards that she received. Libby was also an avid reader, reading at least one book a day.

Libby was preceded in death by her husband Richard Neiman of Spring; son Charles Neiman of Spring; son-in-law, Donald W. Hayek of Columbus; daughter-in-law, Carol Scott of New Caney; parents Alice Hendershot and James Shafer of Nashville, Indiana; brothers Floyd Shafer, Ira Shafer, James Junior Shafer all of Columbus, Indiana; sisters Mary Perry of Columbus, Indiana, Hilda Lee of Detroit, Michigan, Hesper Shafer and June Carver of Salt Lake City, Utah.

She is survived by her son Greg Scott of New Caney; daughters Marie Hayek of Columbus, and Mary Kleypas (John) of Spring; grandchildren Tania Giardina (Matt) of The Woodlands, Tamara Hernandez (BJ) of Cedar Park, Bethany Sexton (Zachary) of Lindale, and Heather Hayes (Ryan) of Manhattan, New York; great-grandchildren Lauren and Kaitlyn Giardina and Blake and Ryan Hernandez; brother Bob Shafer of Columbus, Indiana.

There was a visitation and viewing Wednesday, May 18 at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Spring, Texas 77379. Libby was buried with graveside service at the VA Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, Texas 77038.

Pallbearers were Matt Giardina, BJ Hernandez, Zachary Sexton, Ryan Hayes, Blake Hernandez, and Ryan Hernandez.
