Johnnie Wilbert Phillips, Sr.,83, of Frelsburg (New Ulm) passed away Feb. 9 in Columbus. He was born on a ranch in Lone Oak Community in Colorado County, Sept. 22, 1937. His father was Charles Eugene Phillips and mother was Lydia Anne Nysheba Phillips. On Nov. 8, 1963 he married Beverly Ann Pollard from Houston. He became a member of St Giles Presbyterian Church in Houston in 1970. He was a retired Journeyman Electrician from Local Union 716. Johnnie served in the Army Reserves for six years.
Johnnie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beverly; daughter Tammie Lyn Phillips of Houston; son Johnnie Wilbert Phillips, Jr. of Houston; granddaughter Shannon Elizabeth Phillips of Houston. He also had one sister, Shirley Ann Phillips Dockal, one niece, Shari Dockal and two nephews, Bruce Dockal and Eddie.
Johnnie liked the outdoors and liked to fish. He loved working on cars and fixing them up. The family camped a lot at the lake and he just en joyed being with people. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed his Brothers at the Masonic Lodge in Columbus, where he had transferred to, from the Waltrip Lodge of Houston. He moved to Frelsburg in 1992 but didn’t retire until 2003.
Johnnie’s family is grateful to Dr. Bart Klaus and his staff, CCH and Columbus Oaks and all of their staff for helping Johnnie throughout his illness. The family appreciates their kindness.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
