ROBERT DANIEL

Robert “Bob” Trussie Daniel, 89, peacefully died Aug. 31, 2023. Bob loved to spend time outdoors and was always ready to get the smoker going for another brisket. He loved his family and friends and was always happy to reminisce about times past.

Bob was born in Mission, Texas, to Robert T. Daniel Sr. and Alberta Borchers on June 7, 1934. He was the youngest of eight children.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings.

Bob always had good memories of his childhood growing up, including earning the opportunity to go ranching with his older brothers. But to hear him talk about his sisters you would have thought they were pure evil. But these are the sisters who always referred to Bob as “baby Bobby” and insisted they always loved on him.

We will never know who was telling the truth.

Bob was a graduate of Mission High School and was a good athlete. He was drafted into the Army and served most of his time in Germany during the Korean conflict. He returned to Texas and enrolled at the University of Texas in Austin. It was there he met Sylvia Dean, whom he would wed in 1957.

Upon graduation in 1959, Bob began a successful career that eventually led him to move his family to Houston. Bob worked for CRS Design Associates as their corporate comptroller until he retired. He and Sylvia raised three boys — Steve, Bart and Brian. They remained happily married until Sylvia’s untimely passing in 1996.

Bob married Paula Rogers in 1997 and was happily married to her until her death in 2020.

Bob’s recent years were the perfect culmination of his good life.

In 2019, Bob returned to the country so that he could split his time between tractor work, tending the garden, watching the deer and taking care of his beloved dog and cat. He enjoyed watching the wildlife while sitting back and enjoying a cigar — and maybe a sip of whiskey.

However, 2023 was not kind to Bob. A cancer diagnosis presented a final hurdle that was simply too much for him to overcome. He will be missed by all.

Bob was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia Lee Daniel, and his second wife, Paula Rogers.

Survivors include his children, Steve Daniel and his wife, Karrie, of Houston, Bart Daniel and his wife, Cam, of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Brian Daniel and his partner, Wilson, of North Bergen, New Jersey.

He leaves behind his grandchildren, Amy and her husband Hunter, Audrey, Drew and his wife Alex, Elizabeth and Emily; and three great-grandchildren, Maggie, Samantha and Otto. He also leaves his guard dog Trooper and his sweet feline adoptee Lucy, who will both sadly miss him.

Services are 1 p.m. Sept. 21, 2023, at Henneke Funeral Home, 1515 Montezuma St., Columbus, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you sit back tonight with your favorite drink in hand and reflect on a good memory shared with Bob. Cheers!
