Emma Lavine Leyendecker Schneider passed away Oct. 17 at the age of 94. She was born June 17, 1925 to Arthur and Annie (Brune) Leyendecker in Frelsburg. Emma married William “Nottie” Schneider Oct. 4, 1947 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus.

Emma lived her entire life in Columbus. She worked 22 years as a Driver’s License Clerk for the Texas Department of Public Safety before her retirement Mar. 31, 1990.

Emma was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, a Charter Member of the Catholic Daughters of the America’s Court Mary Queen of the Snows No. 1588. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

Emma, best known to her family as Meemaw, was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an excellent cook whose specialty were baked goods, a great seamstress and a master at crocheting. When she wasn’t hunting, fishing, or gardening, she could be found at a challenging game of dominoes or cards. She enjoyed sports; in particular she loved her Houston Astros.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, Nottie; first born beloved son, Henry; sisters Florence Zajicek, Charlene Lichey, Nona Etheridge Schmidt, Betty Sens, Annie Louise Franta, and Aileen Leyendecker and brothers Jack F. Leyendecker, Crockett Leyendecker, and Manley Leyendecker.

Emma is survived by her children; Louie Schneider and wife Charlene of Blue OK, Mary Strickland of Houston, and daughter-in-law Rhonda Schneider of Columbus, sister-in-law; Gladys Leyendecker, grandchildren Emily Schneider Skokna and husband Scott, Will Schneider and wife Racheal, Charles “Chip” Schneider, Luke Schneider and wife Katherine, Nathan Schneider and wife Ashley, Cori Schneider Billy and husband Bubba, Matt Whitley, and Christopher Whitley, great grandchildren Ella and William “Bucky” Schneider, Edison, Elliott, and Iris Skokna, Dakota and Case Schneider, Matthew Whitley III, Jacob and Justin King, and Chaney Billy, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Special thanks to her loving caregivers, Carlene Upson and Melinda Sewell, and to the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice.

Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 20 at Henneke Funeral Home and at church Monday, Oct. 21.

There was a Parish Prayer Service and Catholic Daughter Rosary Sunday at 6 p.m.. Funeral service was Monday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Fr. Augustine Asante officiating. Burial followed at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus.

Pallbearers were Emily Schneider Skokna, Will Schneider, Charles “Chip” Schneider, Luke Schneider, Nathan Schneider, Cori Schneider Billy, Matt Whitley and Christopher Whitley.
