Edwin Frank Seidel, 76 of Frelsburg, passed away in Victoria Jan. 4, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Edwin was born on Nov. 3, 1945 in Moulton to Frank and Norma Seidel, the youngest of six children. He was baptized at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moulton. Edwin graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1966-1968 as an E4 Firefighter in the Vietnam War. On Oct. 4, 1970, he married the love of his life, Dianne Halfmann.

Edwin worked for several companies throughout his lifetime, retiring from Exterran in 2013. He worked as a welder, fabricator and lead man. After retirement, he took pride in being the caretaker of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. Edwin’s hobbies were yard work, gardening, taking vacations to the beach, especially South Padre Island, going to casinos, and spending time with his family especially his two grandchildren. He was an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, American Legion Shelby Post, Vietnam Veterans of America, and VFW Columbus Post.

Edwin is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dianne, his only daughter Jennifer Prazak and husband Paul of Brenham; two grandchildren Hunter and Shelby Prazak of Brenham; sisters Roselyn Cloat of Frelsburg, Dorothy Krause of Beasley, Jeanette Meyer of Columbus; sisters-in-law Gladys Stolle of Sealy, Ellen Vasek of Frelsburg, Virginia Faldyn of Frelsburg, and Janice Kasmiersky and husband A.K. of Fayetteville; brothers-in-law Joe Halfmann of Columbus and Raymond Halfmann and wife Sharon of New Ulm.

Edwin is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Norma Seidel; father-in-law and mother-in-law Anton and Vlasta Halfmann; sisters Wilma Kubenka and Lillian Svoboda; special nephew Ken Kubenka; brothers-in-law Gene Kubenka, Daniel Svoboda, Ervin Cloat, Dennis Krause, Denver Meyer, Leon Stolle, Charles Vasek, Albert Huebel, Joe Faldyn, Jr., and Anton Halfmann, Jr.; sisters-in-law Jurline Huebel and Margie Halfmann.

Visitation was Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022 at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. A rosary was held.

Funeral service was Monday, Jan. 10, 2022 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Frelsburg with Fr. Bob Knippenberg officiating. Visitation at church was prior to the funeral service.

Burial was in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Frelsburg.

Pallbearers were Hunter Prazak, James Svoboda, Jack Cloat, Dwayne Krause, Gary Halfmann and Arthur Faldyn. Honorary pallbearers were Ernie Noska, Vernon Warschak, Kenneth Warschak, Ed Sklar, Johnny Canik and Dub Murray.
