Jerry DeLane Thames was born Dec. 19, 1942 at the All Saints Hospital in Ft. Worth.

He was preceded in death by his son Chad Morgan Thames and his parents Gordan and Estelle (Vaughn) Thames.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna Morgan Thames; son Kyle Dee Thames and wife Aundrea and granddaughter Makenzie Thames. His sister Terry Hearn, brother Justin Thames, and a host of nieces and nephews also survive him.

Jerry became a rancher on the Katy prairie and was a real rodeo cowboy. He began his rodeo career at an early age and pursued it for many years. He won a number of calf roping titles and all around titles. He also won many saddles and trophy buckles to attest to his ability.

Jerry was a lifetime director of the Ft. Bend Co. Fair Association and he was instrumental in the growth of the Katy FFA Rodeo. He was a member of several rodeo associations including the SRA, IPRA, PRCA, TCRA, and Texas and National Sr Pro Rodeo Association. He was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Ring of Honor. Jerry attended the First Baptist Church in Columbus.

Graveside service was Sunday, Sept. 26 at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus. Gaylon Flora officiated. Visitation was Sunday, also at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Guy Kmiec, Lex Allgaier, James Kmiec, Rory Koehn, Dale Koehn, and Keith Grant.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Chad Thames Memorial Scholarship Fund, 1088 Old HWY 71, Columbus, TX 78934.
