Sewall Bernard Wilde, age 90, passed away Aug. 31 in New Ulm. He was born Feb. 17, 1930 to Louis and Annie (Untermeyer) Wilde in New Ulm. He married Patricia Ann Frances Gruber Mar. 1, 1962.
Sewall graduated from Fayetteville High School. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher. He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Lions Club. He received a Farmer of the Year Award in the 1970s. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, reading the newspaper, and listening to the radio. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and investing in the stock market.
Sewall was a farmer and cattleman most of his life. The best roles and main roles Sewall Wilde filled were those of being a helpful son and brother, a loving husband, a true friend, and a wonderful father! He was born on the land where he spent all his life. Sewall enjoyed the country life, even though it was filled with hard work. With his parents, brothers, sisters, family, and friends, they made it through the Great Depression and World War II. Dad also survived Guillain-Barré Syndrome in the 1980s, farm crises, boll weevils, droughts, flooding, and raising three daughters.
Sewall was preceded in death by: his parents, Louis and Annie Wilde, brother James Wilde, sister-in-law Isabella, sister Evelyn Woltmann, brothers-in-law Wilbert Woltmann, and Daniel Janish, and infant brother Leroy Wilde.
Sewall is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Patricia Wilde; daughters, Elizabeth Payne and husband Eric of Cat Spring; Debra Land and husband Ronnie of Hockley; and Janice Norsworthy and husband Gale of Chappell Hill; grandchildren Shane (Dawn) Cotton, Erica Payne, Everett Payne, Ethan Payne and Eric (Melissa) Land; great-grandchildren Julie Cotton, Daenerys Cotton, and Easton Land; and sister Aurelia Wilde.
Funeral service was Friday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Frelsburg with Fr. Michael Lyons officiating.
Burial followed at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 3 at Henneke Funeral Home from 5 – 7 p.m. A rosary was held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
Serving as pallbearers were Shane Cotton, Joe Janish, Tim Janish, Eric Payne, Everett Payne, Jim Wilde, Don Woltmann and Ron Woltmann. Honorary pallbearers were Randy Schramm, Edward Wilde, Robert Wilde, David Wilde, Glenn Wilde, Doug Wilde, Keith Wilde, Larry Janish, Andrew Wilde, Greg Wilde, Dale Wilde, Anthony Lange, Steven Short, Duane Dudensing, Dale Rinn, Daniel Trevino, Gary Fritsch, Glenn Geistmann, Larry Sodek and Rick Sodek.
