BROWNSVILLE – After several strong performances at the regional youth track meet, the CYFF track team continued their momentum in the TAAF state competition. Many athletes made it to the Finals with several placing in the top-3 spots and claiming a medal position. With some help from some varsity Columbus competitors, the CYFF team had a quality outing as a team.
The first day featured just a pair of athletes as Samaria Willilams for the 8U age group and CHS athlete Scarlett McClelland performed well for CYFF as they finished as some of the top performers in their respective events. Williams qualified for the finals in the 50 m sprint as she contributes to a quality group of 8U runners. McClelland took silver in the triple jump after finding a high level of success in the event during last spring’s varsity track season. McClelland would go on to compete in the long jump finals where she placed fifth while Williams and the 8U girls went on to compete in the relay race.
Williams, along with Zavrie McCathern, Zaniyah McCathern and Elliot Davis went on to take sixth place in the finals. Kamry Dillard assisted as well, running with the 8U girls during the prelims relay race.
