On Saturday, Oct. 3. the Columbus Youth Football Federation (CYFF) traveled to Cuero to take on the Gobblers. The PeeWee division (ages 5-7) started the day off strong, but ultimately fell short losing to the Gobblers 25-13.
The PeeWee division got the game going with the first play of the game, a 60-yard run by Daedryn Fuller to put the Cards up 6-0.
Cuero answered with a score of their own, and then took the lead, capitalizing on their points after 6-8.
The Cards then went 4 and out but were able to get back in the game with a great defensive play by E. Sutton, who stripped the ball and ran down field for another Cardinal touchdown!
The extra point was run in by D. Fuller. The Cards finished the half down 12-14. The Cards were unable to score during the second half and lost 13-25.
The Junior Cardinals (age 8-9) defeated the Gobblers 32-28. At the half, the Cards were down 13-21, but came back strong in the second half. All four Cardinal touchdowns were scored by quarterback Kiyan Johnson. The Junior Cards came up big defensively in the fourth quarter with a fumble recovery by Clayton Thomas.
Although the Cards ended up turning the ball over on downs late in the fourth, the defense held strong and were able to keep the Gobblers out of the end zone as time expired.
The Bantam Cardinals (age 10-12) defeated Cuero 14-0. The defense played hard and managed to keep the Gobblers out of the end zone all game. The trio of Keyon Hemphill, Sean Sutton, and Christopher Quinn led the team in tackles. Brennan Hicks scored both running touchdowns with the extra points ran in by KorDae Johnson and Kedarian Pratt.
CYFF plays in Industrial this Saturday, Oct. 10. Bantam plays Industrial at 9 a.m. Juniors play Industrial at 10:15 a.m, and PeeWee plays Ganado at 11:15 a.m.
