Heger starts for Bossier Parish softball

Freshman Skylar Heger has started for the Bossier Parish Community College softball team.

The Weimar High School graduate played in seven of the first 10 games and hit .313 with one home run — a solo shot — and five runs batted in.

Listed on the roster as a catcher and utility player, she has started at catcher, first base and designated player. She singled twice in three at-bats during a loss to Galveston, her second game, and had a three-game hitting streak heading into Feb. 21 play.

Heger had a perfect fielding percentage in 15 chances.

More softball

Sophomore Zoe Berger started the first nine games for Southwestern College and batted .261 with one RBI. The Columbus High alumna has been playing center field.

Texas A & M International University pitcher Darrian Smith had a 2-4 record and 5.37 earned run average in seven appearances. Previously at Weimar, the senior hit .280 with three RBIs.

Also from Weimar, freshman Malarie Mican batted .250 in five games for Ranger College.

Women’s indoor track and field Savannah Pilsner finished sixth in the mile at the Concordia Early Bird meet. The Kansas Wesleyan University sophomore, who is from Columbus High, has been competing in the 800 and 1,000-meter runs as well.

Baseball

University of Houston- Victor ia senior Hayden Leopold hit .227 through 14 games. The past Cardinal had five RBIs and had a .967 fielding average in 90 chances, second most on the squad. Pitcher Trenton Chenard allowed two hits and three earned runs in one and two-third innings of relief for Dodge City Community College against New Mexico Junior College. He played for the Wildcats.

Men’s basketball

Blinn College freshman Joey Ramirez averaged 4.6 points and 1.3 points in 11 games. The former Wildcat had a season-high 20 points in a November game.

Men’s indoor track and field

Out of Rice Consolidated High, freshman Daniel Zepeda ran the lead leg of the East Texas Baptist University distance medley relay that finished sixth at the Fas-Track Indoor Collegiate Challenge.
