Lady Cards extend winning streak to four games

The Columbus Lady Cardinals are stringing together wins at the right time in their district schedule.

They have won their last four games and have won five of their last six, with the two most recent wins coming last week over Yoakum and Edna.

Starting the week off the Lady Cards traveled to Yoakum on Tuesday, March 19, where their offense caught fire.

The Lady Cards offense could not be stopped on Tuesday night scoring nine runs in the contest. Leading the way was Ellie Brown for the Lady Cardinals who had seven runs batted in Tuesday night.

That stat is even more impressive considering the Lady Cards only had eight RBIs in the entire game against Yoakum.

She accomplished this by recording a hit on three of her four at bat attempts. One of her hits was a home run and another one of her hits was a triple.

While Brown took care of the offense Karlee Mathis was tasked with pitching for the game. Mathis pitched all seven innings and gave up three runs on five hits while striking out three batters.

The Lady Cards got a big confidence boost after winning this game and carried it over to their game against Edna on Friday.

This game was very telling about the Lady Cards and where they stand as a group and where their morale is at.

These girls played that game for each other, they wanted to see the person next to them play so badly. The positivity and support to just play loose and try different things was apparent.

They had a smile on their faces from the opening pitch and just the feel from the dugout was loose but confident. They are gelling at the right time and if there is any proof that they are, look at their pitching stats from their last game.

Allie Cranek, Mia Post and Mathis all contributed to a close 3-0 win on home field. But the thing about them was collectively they walked only three batters and only allowed three hits.

They worked together to get the job done and stayed calm whenever they got into jams. They trusted each other and navigated a way out of situations to lock up their fifth district win of the season to inch closer to that top spot in the standings.

The Lady Cards will have another opportunity to get to that top spot when they play Rice Consol idated on Tuesday, March 26, on the road in Rice at 5 p.m.
