Lady Cards struggle at Rice Tournament

The Columbus Lady Cards traveled to Altair to play in Rice’s host soccer tournament but unfortunately never really found their footing.

The Lady Cards took on Brazosport, Hempstead and Royal at the tournament and went 1-2 in those games.

Vs, Brazosport, L, 1-0

The Lady Cards got off to a tough start at the tournament, dropping the first game by one goal. The Lady Cards fought and fought throughout this game, but could not seem to find the back of the net no matter what they did.

As time ticked down, the Lady Cards knew they just had to execute just a little bit better and they can capitalize on their scoring chances.

They were not playing badly, slow and were not doing anything negative. They just needed to find a way to finish plays and they did in game number two.

Vs, Hempstead, W, 2-0

With a foul taste in their mouths and plenty of motivation to get points on the board the Lady Cards entered game two with a new confidence.

The Lady Cards found the back of the net twice in the second game while putting on a masterclass on defense. They shut out Hempstead and picked up their first win in the tournament, but things were only going to get tougher from here.

The Lady Cards set their sights on Royal looking to keep the momentum going and string some wins together.

Vs, Royal, L, 3-1

In their last game of the tournament, the Lady Cards were taken down by Royal 3-1.

The Lady Cards started the game with some jump and were able to apply some early pressure to the Royal defense. Royal weathered the storm and quickly went on the counterattack and scored at will it seemed.

The Lady Cards cut into their lead and began building momentum but ran out of time and were handed their second loss.

The Lady Cards now look ahead to their next game against the Smithville Tigers on Jan. 19, in Smithville.
