Weimar’s varsity lady hoops team has had some varying performances in recent weeks as they attempt to stay near the top three of the district standings. The Ladycats got one step closer to their goal of becoming district champs with a big win against Bloomington early in the week. However, they suffered another setback over the weekend as they took a defeat from Shiner.

Vs Bloomington, W, 51-31 The Ladycats started their competitive week with a game that never was truly competitive against Bloomington. Weimar dominated from the opening tip, but especially on the defensive end. They did not allow Bloomington to score into double figures in any quarter but the final frame. Conversely, the Ladycats scored double digits in every quarter in the game and outscored their opponents in each period.

Paige Pavlu had a big game for the Ladycats with 25 points, four steals and seven rebounds, all of which were the leading totals for the team. Izzy Reeves had the next highest total of points with seven points and Jaiya Cook was next with six points to go along with five rebounds. Kim Hinze had a stat-sheet-stuffing effort with four points, four rebounds, three steals and a team-leading seven assists.

Vs Shiner, L, 42-30

Weimar dealt with a much tougher defensive attack from the Lady Comanches during their weekend competition at home. The final score reflects a blowout despite the Ladycats outscoring Shiner 22-21 through the final three quarters of the game. They were undone by a Shiner offense that caught fire in the first period. Shiner scored 21 points while holding Weimar to eight points as they created a sizable lead.

The top scorers stayed in the same order against Shiner as they were some of the few players to get anything going. Paige Pavlu finished with another double-double, picking up 12 points and 11 rebounds. Izzy Reeves was the team’s only other double-digit scorer with 10 points.
